baby's big day

audrey is one week old today. after keeping mommy and daddy up all night long, we finally got up and gave audrey her first bath with ana and auntie rachel. rachel then did a photo shoot with audrey. she got lots of photos with ana and audrey and lots of photos of audrey in cute poses. then we took audrey to the doctor for her newborn appointment. she weighs exactly eight pounds and the doctor is very happy she has gained four ounces since being home and is hoping she will gain two more ounces by friday. here are some pictures from today:

daddy and daughter had a long night. daddy wouldn't let mommy get up because he wanted her to sleep.

audrey's first bath at home

ana and audrey have been having a fun time together. a big thanks to my mom for taking such good care of her new granddaughter while she was here and staying up with her all night so mommy and daddy could get some rest.

bringing audrey home

oh, it is good to be home! it was fun to dress audrey up at the hospital in her coming home outfit. it was really funny because as soon as i put her in this dress, her eyes opened and stayed opened like she was finally offically awake and ready for the world.

an end in sight

little audrey is measuring four weeks ahead and now estimated to weigh between nine and nine and half pounds. as of my last appointment she was still "floating" high and doctor thinks she is too big for normal delivery. wow, i guess she really likes the home i have made for her in there because it seems like she gets higher every day instead of dropping...but now there is an end in sight. unless by some miracle she decides to come sooner, she will be delivered via c-section on the evening of July 23rd. i felt a lot of anxiety about this in the beginning, but i am beginning to get used to the idea and trying to think about the pros instead of the cons. one thing that makes me smile is knowing that by july 23rd i will get to hold my baby girl. another thing that is positive is that knowing the day means i can be prepared, have my bag packed with everything, having baby's carseat installed, having my house clean, laundry done, freezer packed, etc. another thing is that i have had a lot of anxiety about labor and delivery and what could happen. i was even told by my doctor to skip the birthing class dave and i had signed up for because even when i read about labor i start to panic and have trouble breathing...at least some of the variables will be taken out of the equation with a c-section. i know there are definite cons but i try not to dwell on them. as long as baby is healthy, that is all i can ask for.

so now it is just a matter of getting through the next five days. yesterday was fun. my parents were in town and took rachel, jj and i out to breakfast and then my mom, rachel and i went to go get pedicures. now i have fancy toes. i am a little sad though, because i really like the color they used and that nail polish is discontinued (i looked it up right when i got home) now and is not available for purchase so i better enjoy it now.

it is called "my throne for a cranberry scone" and it is a little more red on the nails than this picture looks...it is the perfect mix of pink and red...

it's nice to be appreciated

my boss sent me this token of appreciation on my first day of maternity leave (even though baby is still at home in my belly) with a thoughtful note thanking me for all i do for her and letting me know that i will be missed. it really made my week. it is nice to be appreciated.

(sorry i took these pictures on my cell phone so they are a little blurry, but you get the idea)

you never realize...

as you may or may not know, julie and i (dave) have worked in the same office for just over a year. i have really enjoyed our daily commute together, the many times we have had lunch together and being with her at company functions as they are always 'employee only' events. but what i have enjoyed the most is being able to see her beautiful, warm smile as i walk by her desk. even though we are still on 'baby watch', today is julie's first day of maternity leave and while i knew i would miss our commute, etc. i never realized just how much of a difference she made in my days at work as i did when i walked by her desk and it was empty.

many times i don't realize what i have until it's not longer there.

i love you julie and i am SO, SO proud of you!!
